Robertson Down But Not Out

May 12, 2008

Winston-Salem, NC: Ryan Robertson and the Carolina Wood Floors and WSSU Motorsport Management Chevrolet were ready for their two 20 lap Sportsman race during the Carolina Wood Floors 100 at Bowman Gray Stadium on Saturday night.

After an incident at the prior weekend’s race, Robertson Motorsports had the car back in top running condition. As tradition at the Stadium, drivers draw their starting positions, Robertson drew 16th for the first of the two double headers.

Robertson raced aggressively off the start and was able to make his way up to ninth by the time the first caution flag waved on lap one. Lap two did not prove to be as lucky for Robertson in this cautioned filled evening. Robertson and the #30 Mitch Gales got side by side, making some contact and hitting Robertson onto two wheels, almost in the grass.

“I was sure I was going to flip,” said Robertson. “When the car came back down on all four wheels we were trying to assess the damage as quickly as possible. The front right fender was rubbing the tire and the battery wouldn’t start. Luckily we were able to get everything fixed before the end of the caution.”

At the restart, Robertson started at the back of the field. By the fourth caution of the race on lap nine he made his way up to 15th, to finish 12th in the first race.

The top twelve drivers were inverted for the second race, so Robertson was able to start on the pole. With strong driving Robertson was able to stay in third place throughout a majority of the race. During lap 18 Robertson was spun out in turn three and four. This forced him to drop back to the back, finishing 17th.

Robertson Motorsports is currently sponsored by Carolina Wood Floors, WSSU Motorsport Management, WCWG CW20 and WSJS 600 1200. The next race will be this Friday, May 16th at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, NC.
