Rain Filled Night for Robertson Racing

June 16, 2008

Hickory, NC: After hours of rain delays and a mandatory stop for fuel after the UARA cars had gotten the track dried out again, the UARA Stars Bad Boys Mowers 150 was finally underway at 11:30pm on Saturday night. Ryan Robertson, driver of the #31 Savage Energy Chevrolet was ready to get the race started.

Robertson had started off the rain-filled day strong with two solid times during the practice sessions. When it was time to qualify the skies had opened several times and the drivers, crews and fans were standing around waiting.

“The whole day we seemed to have to hurry up and wait,” said Robertson. “We were trying to be quicker than Mother Nature, but with the track having no curfew we had all night to get everything done.”

Robertson qualified 24th quickest, but with a field of 35 cars, only the top 22 were taken on qualifying times. Robertson started the 25 lap heat race as the lead car, and despite several cautions and a couple cars making a run, he was able to hold his spot. This put Robertson starting in the 25th spot out of 28 cars.

It did not take long for the first of several caution flags to wave during the race. On lap 19, Robertson took advantage of the caution and pitted, his crew jumping into action working on the back of the car. Robertson was able to stay on the lead lap and re-started 19th. Lap 55 saw another caution and a 15th place restart for Robertson.

Despite the changes made under the first caution, on lap 80 Robertson got loose coming out of turn four, causing him to spin out and bump into the wall. Robertson had been able to remain on the lead lap until that time. On lap 97 Robertson was the recipient of the “lucky dog” and was able to get back to the lead lap.

Not long after he was back on the lead lap, Robertson saw two cars make contact, with the #91 car coming down in front of him. Robertson was left with nowhere to go except into #91. This hit caused damage to the front of Robertson’s car. On lap 126, Robertson headed back to the pits so the team could work on the damaged car. The team worked quickly and had him back on the track by lap 129. On lap 134 Robertson pitted again during the caution. Robertson finished the race 17th.

Robertson’s teammate Scott Hall ran at Ace Speedway on Friday night in the Carolina Wood Floors/WSSU Motorsport Management Chevrolet. Hall finished 6th in the 100 lap race. Hall had also planned to run at Bowman Gray Stadium, in Winston-Salem, NC, on Saturday, but the race was rained out.

Robertson’s next race will be at Coastal Plains Raceway in Jacksonville, NC this Saturday. Hall will be running at Bowman Gray Stadium. Robertson Motorsports is currently sponsored by Savage Energy, Carolina Wood Floors, WSSU Motorsport Management, WCWG CW20 and WSJS 600/1200am.
