Robertson Strong in UARA Race - Late race incident postpones team’s first top-ten finish
June 23, 2008
This weekend marked another busy weekend for Robertson Motorsports. Ryan Robertson, driver of the #31 Savage Energy Chevrolet was at his fourth UARA race of the season at Coastal Plains Raceway in Jacksonville, NC. Scott Hall, driver of the #23 Carolina Wood Floors/WSSU Motorsport Management Chevrolet, appeared again at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC.
Despite a rain filled morning at Coastal Plains Raceway, everything was on schedule for qualifying, with young Robertson posting the 17th fastest time among the 30 car field. The team was pleased, given that they had never even tested at the track.
As the race got underway, Robertson began working his way through the field, making his way into the top 10 by lap 95. After avoiding an accident involving other drivers in front of him, Robertson’s car stalled out and required a push start. Robertson went two laps down waiting for the push from the tow truck. Once the tow truck arrived, he was pushed past the pace car causing him to be penalized two additional laps. Robertson finished 20th overall.
“Despite the finishing position, this was the best I have ever seen Ryan race,” said Team Owner Mike Robertson. “We had a top ten or maybe top five finish coming, so it was frustrating for us, but Ryan is really settling into the series as a driver now. For him to race like this at a track he’s never seen before was a tremendous accomplishment. He’s learning to adjust and stay competitive quickly.”
In Winston-Salem, Hall drew 16th to start the first of two sportsman races at the Stadium. He was able to start moving forward quickly and finished 8th. Hall started the second race then in 8th but unf
ortunately missed a gear and got stuck on the outside and finished 9th in the short race.
Robertson will be racing at the Stadium this Saturday night for Savage Energy Night. Savage Energy will be sampling at all three entrance gates. Attendees of the race will be able to receive $2 off adult admission when they bring a Savage Energy bottle cap to the South Gate.
Robertson Motorsports is currently sponsored by Savage Energy, Carolina Wood Floors, WSSU Motorsport Management, WCWG CW20 Television, and WSJS 600/1200 AM Radio.
