May 21, 2007
Friendship Motor Speedway saw some heated action Friday night, as Ryan Robertson challenged the likes of the notableTerry Gaither and "Rock" Harris in two late model races. Qualifying second, Robertson mixed it up mid-race in an aggressive series of bumps and scrapes, getting caught in a multi-car crash that took the #29 Carolina Wood Floors Chevrolet off the track. Jumping into the team's #39 mate, crew member Derrick Barnes finished the first feature in tenth position. Robertson drove from the back of the pack in the second feature race to finish fifth. And that was just Friday night.
Saturday night saw the team again at Bowman Gray Stadium, in front of another strong crowd of 15,000 plus. Young Robertson finished a strong second in the first sportsman 20 lap, and drove from the back to finish fifth in the second feature of the night.
More excitement came when Ryan's grandfather, Gerald Robertson, who still competes actively, led all the way in the 15 lap stadium stock race, holding off a closing charge by Kevin Neal to win. "It was a great night for the family, and a great rebound from a tense evening the night before", said Mike Robertson, Ryan's father and Gerald's son. "I was real proud of the way the team handled the issues on Friday night, and the way Ryan responded on Saturday. And, it was especially sweet to see my Dad win again".
The Robertson family will be the first family to race three generations at the same time at Bowman Gray over its 59 year history this Saturday night, May 26th.
