Robertson Makes First Appearance in the UARA
April 28, 2008
Rougemont, NC: Tensions were high leading into the third race in the United Auto Racing Association race at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC. Ryan Robertson and the #31 Savage EnergyTM Chevrolet was making their rookie debut in the series.
“We were all a little anxious to see how the race was going to go,” said team owner Mike Robertson. “We spent a lot of time testing at this track but we had not been able to race there. This was also the first time we ran the Savage EnergyTM car in a race.”
After some troubles during the practice sessions trying to get the car setup to how it needed to be Robertson was able to qualify 24th out of 31 drivers. The team elected to work on the car after qualifying to see if they could work out all the kinks before the race. This put them in the last starting position.
“We were running much faster times during the first practice than we were able to qualify at,” said Mike. “We were hoping the adjustments we made would bring us to where we needed to be to run in the front half of the pack.”
Robertson did not stay last for very long. He was able to start moving his way through the field. During lap 21 Robertson was involved in the second caution of the night when he was spun out in the middle of turn one and two. Luckily there was no damage to the car, but it pushed Robertson to the back of the pack again.
Midway through the race Robertson started having issues with his radio cutting in and out.

“I began to hold back once my radio began to malfunction,” said Robertson. “I was trying to play it safe and keep the car running throughout the race. We were focused on finishing the race and not pushing our luck too much.”
Unfortunately people had other ideas for him. Robertson was involved in another wreck on lap 124 which took the car out for the rest of the race.
“We were disappointed we were unable to finish the race,” said Mike. “We will have some work to do to get the car ready for the next race. We were able to learn a lot from this race and think we will be able to have a good showing there.”
Robertson racing is currently sponsored by Savage EnergyTM and WCWG CW20. Robertson’s next UARA race will be on May 31st at Dillon Motor Speedway in Dillon, South Carolina.
